Human Impact

Hunting to Extinction

Humans need to eat food. Humans get food from other animals. Too many of these animals are killed and go extinct. Humans are very greedy, you see, so they'll also do this for clothing and other resources. Some examples of things that have been hunted to extinction are types of whales, dolphins, and tigers.

Habitat Destruction

Habitat destruction is when changes are made to a habitat by humans that render the habitat ultimately unable to support dependent species. Habitat destruction reduces biodiversity and is a significant cause of extinction. Some examples of habitat destruction are agriculture, pollution, urbanization, and deforestation.

Invasive Species

An invasive species is a species that is not native to an ecosystem and was introduced to it by humans.  They usually do harm to the ecosystem they are introduced to because they may have no natural predators and might wildly reproduce, unchecked. Some examples are Honeysuckle and Emerald Ash Borers.

Global Warming

Global Warming is the process of the Earth's global temperature warming up due to greenhouse gasses trapping the sun's heat. We produce these greenhouse gasses at an alarming rate, accelerating the rate at which the planet is warming up. Global warming leads to a rise in sea level, melting ice caps, extreme weather, and shifting jet streams.
